On the 26th of June, London Gypsies and Travellers held an insightful exhibition, ‘Mapping the Histories of London’s travellers’, which shed light on the unique contributions made by Romany Gypsies, Irish Travellers and Travelling Showpeople to London’s social, economic and cultural life since the 19th century. Centred around the geography of nomadic life in London over time, the exhibition uncovered the ways in which the histories of Gypsies and Travellers are directly tied to the evolution of London.

In April 2018, Mapping for Change embarked on an ambitious three year research project to tackle odour pollution on a global scale, working with 15 partners from across Europe and beyond. Now over a year into the project we are looking for neighbourhoods in the UK who are affected by odour issues to come on board and join us in this exciting project.

2018 has been a rather epic year in terms of our work on air quality. We supported the largest ever distribution of nitrogen dioxide monitors deployed by school students in Barcelona and ended the year with our first project in Sub-Saharan Africa, more precisely, Uganda.

Le Fiere Del Rosario – San Dona Di Piave

As part of the WeGovNow project, this month the Mapping for Change team attended Le Fiere Del Rosario festival in San Donà Di Piave to support project partners Comune Di San Donà Di Piave in introducing the WeGovNow platform to a new audience.
The annual three-day festival is attended by 300,000 visitors and so presented the perfect opportunity to show local people a new way of participating in the shaping of their city. Using large paper maps at the exhibition stand and hands-on activities we focused on three key areas – sustainability in partnership with EnergyCare Interreg; urban regeneration in partnership with Urbact; and cycle routes. ECSA Conference 2018 – Citizen Science in Europe

The second European conference for citizen and participatory science, organised by the European Citizen Science Association – ECSA was held in Geneva this June. The three day event brought together some of the leading voices and minds in citizen science from across the globe to share ideas and learn from each other’s work. This international celebration of citizen science kicked off on Sunday 2nd with a Citizen Science Festival and Bioblitz for scientists and the public alike to get involved and explore the different projects that are going on throughout Europe and beyond. D-NOSES – Putting odour on the map

Mapping for Change is delighted to be a partner in an exciting new EU-funded, three year project, D-NOSES, which aims to tackle odour pollution on a global scale. The project consortium, coordinated by the Ibercivis Foundation (Spain), have assembled a world-class partnership combining experts in Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI), citizen science and co-creation, International Associations, odour scientists, local administration and public bodies. D-NOSES will put odour on the map and ultimately on the international agenda. Continue reading…
